Shower Selector guide

Your choice of shower will be driven by a combination of looks, performance and value for money. However, the way in which cold water is heated and circulated throughout your home is a critical factor in choosing the correct shower. Follow the selector guide once you have identified which type of plumbing system you currently have in your home.

Low Pressure Systems

These are the more traditional types of plumbing systems, often referred to as gravity fed, and are most commonly found in older properties. Low Pressure System Selector Guide

Gravity-fed hot and cold

You will have a cold water cistern (tank) in your loft and a gravity-fed hot water water cylinder in your airing cupboard. There are a selection of mixer, electric and power showers to suit your needs.

High Pressure Systems

These are more modern plumbing systems, often referred to as mains pressurised, and are normally found in new houses or those that have had a new heating system installed. High Pressure System Selector Guide

Fully modulating combination boiler or instantaneous gas water heater

Your water is heated as it is used, producing an endless supply of hot water suitable for most mixer showers. You may however chooce to install an electric shower in an en-suite or extension which would be connected directly to the cold water supply.

Unvented Systems

Your hot water is stored under pressure in a large cylinder either found in your airing cupboard or perhaps in your garage space. Your water will already have sufficient pressure to give you a powerful shower from a mixer shower. If you do not want to heat a full tank of water every time you shower, an electric shower may be a more preferable choice. This would be connected directly to the cold water supply.
